The SDI building was constructed in two phases. !n 1982, the building consisted of 13000 sq ft of Office/Laboratory space. In 1992, it was expanded to its current 28,000 sq.ft size and many features added.
The building is highly energy efficient. Extra insulation added and special attention given to internal processes that generated heat. For example, several high capacity ovens were used in the manufacture of sensors. These ovens were built around a central room that was directly vented to the outside to reduce the air conditioning requirements of the building. In the winter, this room could be readily connected into the normal heating system utilizing their produced heat to warm the building.
There are two loading docks, one at ground level and the other at truck bed height. A two way package conveyor system connects this receiving area to a lower inventory room. This lower room is connected by a two way package elevator connecting it to the upper laboratory area.
The building was built with one contiguous area, but has been subdivided into three smaller areas for different tenant requirements. The area can be easily restored to its original size.
